(KENT, Wash) -- The largest high school drag race on the west coast takes place today at Pacific Raceways.  The All-High School Drags Presented by Green River Community College, 94.1 KMPS and Bracketstars.com will feature racers competing for individual and team honors.

Despite a drippy forecast, the event will happen, said Tracie Brandenburg, Pacific Raceways General Manager.  A  midway featuring vendors, practice trees to sharpen starting line reaction time, music, and a ton of free giveways, concessions and a chance to hang with friends will happen regardless of the weather.  A burn-out contest sponsored by Green River Community College will also take place with the winner collecting $70 in gas cards and bragging rights for the year.  If the track cannot get dried for the event, a make-up date of June 25th is planned.

At stake on the drag strip are scholarships to Green River Community College, individual trophies and a trophy for the winning school.  The event winner will get the opportunity to race NHRA star Antron Brown, driver of the Matco Tools Top Fueler, at the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Northwest Nationals Aug. 5-7.

Gates will open right after school at 2:30 p.m. with racing until 11 p.m.  If you plan on racing, you need to be at the track by 5:30 p.m.  Tech Cards will only be sold until 5:30 to ensure that all racers have at least one time run.

High school students wishing to compete at the event will need to bring a signed parental permission form, which are available at http://www.pacificraceways.com/DragRacing/Forms.aspx.  If you plan on racing your car, you can purchase a Tech Card at the ticket booth when you enter the facility.  Tech cards for racers are $30.

General admission is $15 and $10 for students with an ASB card.  Juniors 7-14 are $5 and children under 6 are free.  Pit parking is $5 and general parking in Lot C is free.

All types of cars and trucks are invited to participate from mom’s station wagon to dad’s race car.  Cars with slicks will be permitted to run, however it is advisable to contact JJ Murray, Pacific Raceways Drag Strip Manager, prior to the event.
