Race track experts Penhall Contractors have worked their magic on 370 feet of new concrete and NHRA’s Wayne McMurtry has given the Kent track a thumbs up to light ‘em up.

“We need a couple of solid days for tire dragging and prep to get the track back in shape,” said Ed Garfield, drag strip manager.  “Hopefully the weather will give us a break.  We’d like nothing more than to get back to the business of racing.”

Racing is scheduled for three days beginning Friday if weather allows the drag crew a large enough window to build rubber onto the racing surface.  Friday is a scheduled Jr. Dragsters, Car Club Challenge, Westcoast Street Car Association and open test and tune; on Saturday, it’s a doubleheader day of All High School Drags and Honda Tech meet; and Sunday is the Auto Max USA Drag Race Series event.

“Penhall spent four long days grinding and polishing the track to the specifications required by NHRA,” said Tracie Brandenburg, raceway general manager.  “They had to bring special equipment from out of state.  The wait was excruciating, but we feel we have a track ready at the national and local levels."

A revised drag strip schedule is available online at pacificraceways.com.
